heading out to get wings then over to my parent's house for dinner and some football. Had a brief moment of pride that my little sister called me up as soon as her Cobalt started idling rough and surging on its own. Looks like I've cemented myself as the go-to car fixer.

Now I have to figure out why this 05 Cobalt is having the mentioned symptoms without throwing a CEL. If revved it calms down. I'm going to swap around the coil packs and have her run through some seafoam in case the injectors are dirty. Light and time will be limited- though I wonder if I can eat hot wings and swap a coil pack at the same time.....

have a stanced cobalt because.. well.. yeah I dunno about that one.

Check the IAC valve. Might be dirty or failed.

Cobalt owner here. Sounds like a dirty throttle body in these cars. Start there. Revving them unsticks it.

If the cleaning doesn't work, you may need a new throttle body.
GF's Nissan Sentra did the same thing, needed a new TB.

When my Neon did it, it was a $25 sensor, not a whole new $150 fly by wire throttle body.

Clean the throttle body, take the intake off and clean it up nice.

The LSJ does that when it gets dirty, I'm sure the LE5 or whatever you have is the same.

pulled off the intake and sprayed it with cleaner, it didn't like that. But the TB was sticking so it helped. The intake itself was crammed on previously so the gasket to TB was severely misshapen. The crank case breather tube also broke off. It's still running rough but looks like it's miss firing so either the injectors or coil packs are bad.

I sent my dad an eBay link to an easy shorty intake to fix the broken intake issues. A buddy of mine has a shop she's going to bring it to since I'm working today.

Dont put an aftermarket intake on it. That will make ir run worse.

Clean the TB with a Tooth brush as best you can and parts cleaner.

Check the plugs, coils are not typical to go on those, neither are injectors.

The stock intake crank case evap hose inlet broke off when we were diagnosing issues. so the I take needs to be replaced and the cheapest route is aftermarket.

The culprit was a bad fuel injector and some spark plugs that were installed in 05 from the factory. Runs great now.

Injectors are rare on those to go, maybe some bad fuel or something contaminated it? Or it was just gummed up

Aftermarket looks cheap now, but the car will run piss poor, people slap intakes onto the SS and it falls on its face, the LE5 runs poorly with aftermarket intakes too if I remember right.

As a thumb nail size picture I thought this was an MG SVR.

Granted it's been a while since I last saw one.
